I’m not a huge fan of post-production editing in my Photography; not because it’s “Fake” or deceptive, but because it’s very time consuming and labour intensive.
That said, sometimes it’s the only way to achieve the results I want. Almost a year ago I was out with my friend and web-designer (same person) and took several images of a lighthouse and the setting sun from the same location. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the images to contain both the lighthouse and sunset.
In the sunset images, the lighthouse was behind me, and I couldn’t get into a position where both could be captured by my camera. I spent nearly a year wishing I could combine them but lacked the language to even look up the method on YouTube or the editing software’s web page.
Since my friend and web-designer (same person) was used to Digital Manipulation, I asked if he knew how to do what I wanted to achieve. After a bit of translation from the program he was used to using to the program I am using, he came up with the answer and walked me through the process.
With his guidance, I was able to take the lighthouse from one photo and place it against the sunset
from another. This is the result.
