I’m just going to consider 2023 the year that wasn’t. For the most part, it was cold and windy in the winter, and rainy all summer. The rain would fall, day after day, and then we’d have a day or two of no precipitation, but not much sun either. When it was raining, the grass grew fast and long; when it wasn’t raining, the grass had to be mowed, but it took longer than it should have because it was wet. There was an area in the backyard where I had to wear rubber boots up until Christmas.
Now we’re over a month and a half into 2024 and most of us are still digging out from record-breaking snowfall! Even light flurries are accompanied by strong winds causing drifting, so the dig-out process has been ongoing. With rain forcast for the weekend, it could get messy!
Because of the terrible weather, and the fact that my camera isn’t waterproof, I didn’t really get out much in 2023. Already in 2024 I’ve been out a few times, and the next little while looks promising. Snowshoeing has been on standby for a number of years because Our winters have been less than stellar, but this year is making up for that! I should be able to get out with my camera into the backcountry and grab some beautiful winter scenes. I have also acquired a waterproof pocket camera which will allow me to shoot in rain and snow, should conditions warrant. It doesn't have the flexibility of a DSLR, but it will make some shots easier to get. In other words, weather won't be such a deterent.
Finally, you may have noticed a new look to my home page! I think it’s far superior to the old one, don’t you? I felt that the old one was too uninspiring, and I wanted to get the viewer to look deeper; to see what’s inside. Being totally unskilled in such things, I had to prevail upon my friend Joel who initially set the page up for me. He’s obviously got skills, but not being a full-time web designer any longer, he had to fit my upgrades into his schedule. I’m very grateful he was able to. I’ve also added a few new images to the gallery, so have a look around and see what’s new.
